The East Bay Workforce Housing Coalition (EBWHC)

is committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing through education, advocacy and building support for housing projects.

Our Mission

The mission of the East Bay Workforce Housing Coalitions is to advocate for the creation of housing that meets the housing needs of a diverse East Bay workforce.   The EBWHC will educate and engage the business community, public officials and other opinion leaders to support housing projects and planning processes that promote responsible development and meet the needs of the county’s workforce.

Who We Are

The East Bay Workforce Housing Coalition is an organization of business and economic development organizations devoted to increasing the supply of workforce housing in the East Bay.  We provide advocacy and coalition building support for projects and planning processes that meet our criteria for density, affordability, transit accessibility and other factors.

If we are to succeed in preserving and growing the economic vitality of the East Bay, we must be able to house all sectors of our workforce.  The lack of diversity in our housing stock and lack of affordability of both for-sale and rental properties handicaps the ability of employers to attract and retain qualified employees including those agencies that provide important public services such as educational institutions and health care providers.

The Coalition works directly with developers, public agencies, business partners and other stakeholders to identify opportunities and work with other interested parties to build coalitions to support the construction and rehabilitation of workforce housing in both Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

The Coalition provides advocacy targeted to the specific needs of the project.  By providing letters of support, public testimony or more in depth coalition building efforts, we bring the economic perspective to the problem.

Our Coalition members include the East Bay Economic Development Alliance (formerly EDAB), the California Alliance for Jobs, the Contra Costa Economic Partnership and the Contra Costa Council.
